WHAT IS HOPE HARBOR?


Brunswick Countys only program off ering around-theclock response to victims of domestic violence and
their children since 1988.
Mission Statement
Hope Harbor Home, Inc. is a non-profi t organization whose
goals are to provide shelter and services to victims of
domestic violence and to promote nonviolence in our
communities.
It is the mission of Hope Harbor Home to intervene in the
domestic violence cycle to protect all persons involved from
physical, mental, emotional and sexual abuse.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE FACTS


Every 15 seconds a woman is beaten in the United States.
Approximately 95-98% of the victims are women and 31% of
female homicide victims are killed by their partner.
Between 15-25% of pregnant women are battered.
Physical violence in dating relationships ranges from 2035%. Physical abuse against women is the most unreported
crime because social attitudes discourage women from
seeking assistance and protection.
Violence toward women is not a Loss of Control but a
deliberate act to gain power and control over the individual.
