Mario Botta
(born April 1,
1943)
He is a Swissarchitect. He studied
at the Liceo Artistico in Milanand the
IUVAin Venice. His ideas were influenced byLe corbusier, Carlo
scarpa,Louis Kahn . He opened his own practice in 1970 inLugano.

Career
Botta designed his first buildings at age 16, a two-family
house at Mirbio Superiorin Ticnio. While the
arrangements of spaces in this structure is inconsistent,
its relationship to its site, separation of living from
service spaces, and deep window recesses echo of
what would become his stark, strong, towering style.

Introduction
The museum consisted of galleries rising around a
central, skylighted atrium.Its external structure
featured a central 130-foot (40m) tall cylinder, and a
stepped-back stone facade. Botta's interior design
was marked by alternating bands of polished and
flame-finished black granite on the floor, groundlevel walls, and column bases; and bands of natural
and black-stained wood on the reception desks and
coat-check desk
