Main Rivers Of Colombia


The main Colombian rivers are grouped into four areas:
Caribbean slope: it owns the Magdalena, Cauca, Atrato and Sinu rivers.
Pacific Rim: where Baudo, San Juan, Patia and Mira rivers arrive.
Orinico shed: it lead the Arauca, Meta, Vichada, Guaviare and Inrida rivers.
Amazon watershed: it drain into the rivers Caqueta, Putumayo, Vaupes and Guainia or Black.

Colombia Characteristics
Colombia is the northernmost of the Andean countries with coasts on the Pacific and Atlantic
oceans. The geographical area is made up of continental land located at the northwest tip of
South America, is the fourth country in the continent, with an area of 1,141,748 km2, including
land island in the Atlantic Ocean (San Andres and Providencia) and ocean Pacific (Malpelo
and Gorgona).
Colombia has several orographic formations among which are:
Sisitema central mountain: represented by three mountain ranges (Western, Central and
Eastern), which belong to the South American Andean system, give the Western and Central
Cordilleras; further north, in the Colombian Massif, the Eastern Cordillera follows.

According to latitude, temperature and rainfall distribution, Colombia has a rainy tropical climate with four varieties:
Climate superhumid jungle with abundant rainfall, little variation of temperature and jungle vegetation exuberente. It is
the climate of the Amazon, Pacific Coast and Magdalena and Catatumbo basins.
Rainy humid climate: it has lower rainfall, high temperatures and a variation of forest vegetation less dense. It is the
caracteriztico climate of Caqueta, Vaupes, part of Antioquia and Cordoba.
Savannah climate: characterized by a dry and a rainy season, with pasture vegetation. It is characteristic of Orinoco,
Bolivar, Norte de Huila and center of Valle del Cauca.
desert climate: high temperatures and low rainfall, with little vegetation, is presented in the guajira and the desert of
the Candlemas in Boyaca.
