Introduction to

Environmental
Engineering

Science
A
systematic
process
for
learning about the world and
testing our understanding of it.
The
accumulated
body
of
knowledge that results from a
dynamic process of observation,
testing and discovery.

Environmental
Science?

Definition:
Environmental science is defined
as a branch of biology focused on
the study of the relationships of
the natural world and the
relationships between organisms
and their environments.

3 Goals of Environmental
Science
1.To learn how nature works.
2.To understand how we
interact with the environment.
3.To find ways to deal with
environmental problems and
live more sustainably.

Natural Science
Definition:
the
systematized
knowledge of nature and the
physical world, including zoology,
botany, chemistry, physics, and
geology.

Environmental
Engineering

- is
the
branch
of
engineering
concerned with the application of
scientific and engineering principles for
protection of human populations from the
effects of adverse environmental factors;
protection of environments, both local
and
global,
from
the
potentially
deleterious effects of natural and human
activities;
and
improvement
of
environmental quality.

- can also be described as a branch

of applied science and technology
that addresses the issues of
energy preservation, production
asset and control of waste from
human and animal activities.
- The application of science and
engineering
knowledge
and
concepts to care for and/or restore
our natural environment and/or
solve environmental problems.

is an engineering specialty that

involves identifying, designing,
and implementing systems to
protect human health and wellbeing and the environment.

Environmental engineers have a

prominent role in maintaining a
high quality of life by providing
potable water and clean air,
remediating contaminated land,
and
minimizing
the adverse
effects of pollution on the
environment.
