    The February Revolution of 1917 in Russia led to the fall of the Tsar. Military defeats in WWI caused loss of morale and the Tsar was blamed as the poor military commander. There was also widespread criticism of the Tsar and Tsarina's incompetent rule and the influence of Rasputin over them. The war severely impacted the Russian economy through shortages of food and workers. Growing social unrest from these conditions led to strikes in Petrograd in February 1917. When the Tsar ordered troops to fire on crowds, soldiers began to mutiny. The Tsar abdicated on March 2nd, ending over 300 years of Romanov rule.
