HISTORY OF THE
UNIVERSITY OF MAKATI
Makati Polytechnic
College was established
through a Municipal
Resolution No. 242
Ordinance No. 64 s.
1972 .
The Polytechnic
Community College was
elevated
to the status of a fullfledged college and was
renamed Makati College
in 1987.

The integration of the former


Fort Andres Bonifacio
College paved the way for
the elevation of Makati
College into a university on
January 10, 1990.
By virtue of Municipal
Ordinance No. 433, series of
1991 under the
administration of Hon. Mayor
Jejomar C. Binay, Makati
College was
converted into Pamantasan
ng Makati (PnM) and
operated as a university on
December 19, 1991.

City Ordinance 2002-111


was passed on August
27, 2002 amending City
Ordinance No. 99-126
which further revised the
Pamantasan ng Makati
charter to change its
official name to
University of Makati.

The University of Makati


expanded from its original
industrial and business
technology courses to
different areas of
specializations like arts and
sciences, education,
computer science, business
administration, technology
management,governance
and public policy, nursing
and
other allied health courses,
performing and digital arts,
and physical wellness.

The University of Makati (Filipino: Unibersidad ng Makati


or Pamantasan ng Makati), commonly known as UMak is a
public, locally funded city university in Makati City, National
Capital Region, Philippines.
The University of Makati is one of the 33 institutions in the
country which piloted the Senior High School Modelling
Program of the Department of Education in 2012.
UMak is the country's first ISO certified local university,
certified in 4 processes such as Admission, Registration,
Releasing of Grades and Issuance of Transcript of
Records.

University of Makati Track

UMak is the first local university to have its own track and field oval that
conforms to international standards. The facility is seen as a venue for
honinglocal athletes and for hosting national and international sporting
events.The 400-meter track oval has eight lanes measuring 1.2 meters
each, with a two-meter warm-up lane and a two-meter wide promenade.
It also has a covered seating gallery, baseball and softball court, shotput
area, two long jump and triple jump areas, two hammer and discus throw
areas, water jump area, pole vault area and javelin throw area.

University
organizations/groups
University Student Council (USC):
is the official student representative body of UMak. As
such, it represents the interests of the students within and
outside the University. It exists to represent UMak
students in affairs of the university, acting as the voice of
students in the local, national, and international issues.
As the highest student representative body in the
university, the USC is composed of members elected
amongst the student body, mandated to
organize and direct campaigns and activities to defend
and promote student rights, and improve the students
general welfare. Furthermore, it provides direct services to
the student body.

UMak Dance Xtreme (UDX): University of Makati's


official street/modern dance company, competing in
many dance competition such as Showtime, Crissa Teen
Dance Synergy, Sketchers Street Dance Battle and
more,UDX held a yearly "Dance Concert" within the
university.
UMak Students News and Current Affairs (Formerly:
The Makati Collegian) is the official student publication of
UMak.
UMak Chorale: The official chorale group of UMak,
competing in many competitions.
UMak Jammers (UJam): The acoustic band group in
UMak.
UMak Brass Band (UBB): The official
instrumental/orchestral band group in UMak.

KAMAO KO: The most famous and successful student


political party in UMak.
AGHAM (Angking Galing at Husay sa Arte at Musika)
Theater Company: is the Resident Musical Theatre Group
of the University of Makati and was founded in 1995.
CAST Inc. (Collective Arts of Students and Thespians
Incorporated): The University of Makati's Resident Theater
Group. CAST now is in the momentum of performing
continuously to enlighten up the community as well as the
university community of what's the real stand of our society
to the world.

Vision
We envision the University of Makati as the primary
instrument where University education and Industry
training programs interface to mold Makati youth into
productive citizens and IT-enabled professionals who
are exposed to the cutting edge of technology in their
areas of specialization. The University shall be the final
stage of Makati City's integrated primary level to
university educational system that allows its less
privileged citizens to compete for high paying job
opportunities in its business and industries.

Mission
To achieve our vision, University of Makati shall mold highly
competent professionals and skilled workers from the
children of poor Makati residents while inculcating in them
good moral values and desirable personality development
by offering baccalaureate degree, graduate degree, and
non-degree programs with parallel on campus social,
cultural, sports and other co-curricular activities.
