Taste Is.
Taste is a chemical sensory mechanism.
A perception of a combination of chemical
signals displayed on the tongue.
Combination of smells, looks, and sounds.
Product of genes and our environment.

Genes and Environment


Genes give a person predetermined taste preference.
Environment helps learn new tastes.
Genes help determine basic tastes using influence on
configuration of taste receptors.
Environment plays a part in experiencing what to eat
from young age to adult age.

So Why Do We Need This?


Taste makes eating pleasurable!
Adds desire to eat, which keeps us healthy.
Taste and smell prepare our bodies for digesting food,
they trigger our salivary glands and digestive
fluids.
Taste provides information about our food.
Detect freshness or spoil from aroma and taste.
