    Brendan Behan was an Irish writer from Dublin who was a member of the IRA in his youth and spent time imprisoned for IRA activity. He went on to write several successful plays drawing from his experiences, including The Quare Fellow and The Hostage, as well as an autobiography called Borstal Boy about his time in borstal prison. Though he struggled with alcoholism his entire life, Behan made a significant impact as a playwright and his works celebrating Irish Republicanism are still performed today.
