1.What is language arts in


English language teaching
From our point of views,
It is a technique used to capture students
attention in appreciating the aesthetic value
of the language.
Language arts is used to enhance students
speaking skill while conducting the
communicating activities.
It helps to promote a non-threatening
environment.

According to Oxford Dictionaries, language arts in


English language teaching is the study of grammar,
composition, spelling, and (sometimes) public
speaking, typically taught as a single subject in
elementary and middle school.
In Malaysia context, Language Arts is viewed as
meaningful, purposeful and fun learning process of
English language through various interesting
activities such as play and drama in order to capture
students attention in appreciating the aesthetic
value of the language.

2.How it is presented /incorporated


in the Malaysian scenario.
We have a standard document for
language arts syllabus and objectivity.
Incorporated in through the activities
held in the classroom.
The activity is created based on the
proficiency level of the students.
For example, storytelling, readers
theatre

Puppets
A puppet
- an inanimate object used in a play or a
presentation
- an inanimate figure moved by a puppeteer to
convey emotion, character & story.
Provides the opportunity to combine art & drama.
Types of puppets: finger, hand, glove, sock,
stick, paper bag, cylinder, cup, sponge, paper
plate, rod

Targeted group : Year 3


Proficiency level : weak - average

Teaching imperatives by
using puppets
Procedure

Teacher teach the students imperatives by using puppets.

Grammar item: imperatives (used in instructions)

Draw the puppet onto each others fists

4.

Draw on the eyes, lips and hair.

5.

Close your fist.

6.

Practise raising & lowering your thumb for the puppet to speak.
