Unit 7

Objective
Able to describe when and what to inspect

1st Inspection
When before ground is broken
Check
Location of floodplain and floodway boundaries
Floodway encroachments if applicable

2nd Inspection
When just before installation of lowest floor
Slab on grade when forms are up and before concrete
poured
On foundation before 1st floor is installed

Why?
Easy to correct mistakes before concrete poured
Easy to add another course of concrete block before floor
construction begins

3rd Inspection
When near end of project
What?

Ensure foundation and floor elevations have not been altered


Obtain elevation certificate or floodproofing certification
Verify foundation openings
Verify machinery, power, and ductwork at or above BFE
In V zones, check breakaway walls
Check for floodway encroachments
Check manufactured home anchoring systems
Photograph bldg. during final inspection

Later Inspections
For VE zones make sure area below floor is not finished
out.
Look for non-permitted accessory structures, fences, or
walls in the SFHA or blocking swales

Measuring Elevations - Autolevels

Leveling is one of the easiest


surveying tasks.
