Shared Ethernet needed rules to avoid
collisions on the network - CSMA/ CD
Switched Ethernet does not allow for
collisions so CSMA/ CD not needed
Implemented for backward compatibility
Very little difference between Ethernet and
IEEE 802.3 or their respective frames
