Topic: A and An

Presentation:
1. Teacher introduces the use of a and an to pupils.
a and an are used for talking about singular
countable noun.
2. Teacher shows the differences between the usage of
a and an.
a is put before a noun that begins with consonant
sounds.
an is put before a noun that begins with vowel
sounds.
E.g.: a + consonant sound : a book, a chair
an + vowel sound: an apple, an orange
3. Teacher invites pupils to give more examples of using
a and an.

Practice:
1. Teacher divides pupils into groups of four.
2. Teacher put cards saying a and an on
opposite walls of the classroom.
3. Each representative of the groups takes turn to
run and touch the correct wall depending on
what the representative sees or hears.
. E.g.: Teacher could show pictures or say any
nouns.
4. The pupil who touches the correct card of a or
an first will earn a point.
5. Group which collects the highest points wins
the game.

Production:
1. Pupils sit in a circle to take turn
brainstorming on giving one example of
using a or an after three claps.
. On the fourth beat of the claps, pupils need
to give one example of using a or an.
. E.g.: Clap clap clap, An apple clap clap
clap, a dog.
2. Teacher facilitates and ensures that pupils
would not repeat the same example.

Creatures

Presentation
1. Teacher shows the pupils a video clip of
The Underwater Adventure.
2. Pupils recall what sea creatures they see
in the video.
3. Teacher introduces the vocabulary related
to sea creatures mentioned in the video.
4. Teacher shows flashcards of sea creatures
with the name labels.
5. Teacher discusses the sea creatures with
the pupils.

Practice
1. Teacher carry out the Kims Game in class.
2. Teacher puts some pictures of sea creatures on
the table and cover them with a piece of cloth.
3. Pupils look and remember the sea creature
when teacher removes the cloth and covers it
back.
4. Pupils identify the sea creatures they saw and
write the names on a paper.
5. Pupils who got the most sea creatures names
with correct spelling win the game.

Production
1. In groups of 5, teacher gives a
picture of sea creature for each
group.
2. Based on the picture given, pupils
discuss and build five sentences
about the sea creature.
3. Representative from each group
share their sentences with the class.
