The sanctuary of flora and fauna

Iguaque is one of 55 protected
areas in Colombia.

The site was declared a sanctuary to protect two targets of

conservation : ethnia - culture and ecology

Location and access: The Sanctuary is located in the department of

Boyacá next to Arcabuco, Chíquiza, Sáchica and Villa de Leyva.

Access can be possible by two routes:

1 - From Arcabuco (30 kilometers from Tunja), you take the road to
Naranjos and the "Stone House" (8 km), heading east, to 3 km is found
the administrative office of Parques Naturales.

2-From Villa de Leyva (35 kilometers from Tunja), where you take the
way to the Arcabuco sector “Boqueron del Cane" (6 km), there the
Naranjos road is taken to a "Stone House" (8 km), heading east , 3 km.

ENVIRONMENTAL INTERPRETATION: Visitors can observe, learn and experience

the different ways that our mother “earth “, shows us its glory and greatness. We
can also recognize some of the legacies of the MUISCAS with guidelines of respect,
contemplation and admiration

COOKING: Based on the principle of food security from clean production

(organic), visitors can taste traditional food and nouvelle cuisine
boyacense made with products grown in the region.

ACTIVITIES: Iguaque - a flora and fauna sanctuary FFS

At the Sanctuary the activities are carried out regarding environmental education
and awareness. The main purpose is the cultural preservation.
Hiking in the canyons of Mamarramos and Carrizal which connect the
administrative center, the camping area and the visitors center.
Climbing to the sacred lagoon of Iguaque, 9 kms

The Host: ecotourism services are provided by the Community Enterprise Naturar Iguaque.
The philosophy of this community around the protected area corresponds to sustainability and
conservation criteria. Through the development of recreational, environmental interpretation,
culinary developments and the natural attractions aim at contributing to local economic
development and improved quality of life of its members.
