Modern agriculture
Modern agriculture is make use of
hybrid seeds of selected variety of a
single crop, technologically advanced
equipment and lots of energy
subsides in the form of irrigation
water, fertilizers and pesticides.
The term Modern agriculture
depicts their commitment to
innovation, meeting the global food
challenge.

Green house
A green house also called a glass
house is a building in which plants
are grown with perfect climatic
conditions.
It is used to overcome shortcomings
in the growing qualities of a piece of
land, such as short growing season
or poor light levels.

Hybrid crops
Hybrid plants are produced by cross
pollination.
Hybrids are chosen to improve the
characteristics of the resulting plants
such as better yield, greater
uniformity, disease resistant plants.

Genetically modified
crops
GMCs are plants used in agriculture,
the DNA of which has been modified
using genetic engineering
techniques.
The aim of GMC is to introduce a new
trait to the plant which does not
occur naturally in the species.
Example-Bt brinjal,golden rice,flvr
savr tomato.

Pesticides and
insectisides
Today with advanced agro
technology huge quantities of
fertilizers, pesticides are used to
increase crop yield.
Example-naturally occurring
pesticides such as pyrethrin and
rotenone are permitted.
While synthetic fertilizers and
pesticides are generally prohibited.
Example-elemental sulfur and

Advantages of modern method

of farming
Soil is made fertile by adding soil
nutrition gets maximum yield.
Mechanical equipments and modern
machinery for ploughing,
levelling,winnowing,harvesting,sprayi
ng, irrigating have reduced manual
labour.
Use of scientific data and technology
has helped better agricultural inputs.

disadvantages
Pesticides and chemical fertilizers has negatively
impacted the environment and resulting in land,
water and environmental pollution.
Elimination of natural enemies of pests.
Loss of soil fertility.
Chemical fertilizers cause the air pollution resulting
in ozone depletion and in global warming.
Excessive use of chemical fertilizers linked to
acidification or salination of soils.
Use of fertilizers resulting in water pollution there
by promote eutrofication.
