Background
Bogambara prison is situated in the city of
Kandy in the Central Province and was built
in 1876 by the British Ceylon Government.
The Bogambara prison is being shifted to an
open prison constructed in Pallekele
The newly constructed prison will be able to
hold up 2500 prisoners
The project cost is approximately 60 million
rupees
Externalities
Positive:
Better infrastructure facilities compared to the
previous prison
Kandy residence will feel much safer
The local area might have a chance of development
due to free or less wage employed by the prisoners.
Negative:
Residents of the new area will feel more insecure
As it is suppose to be a secure facility for inmates,
there is an opportunity cost of creating a revenue
generation to the economic development.
