What can you learn with this

resource?
This text covers the breadth of psychology. You can find out
about many topics such as intelligence, personality, mental
disorders, social and cognitive development. You can learn
about how psychology relates to various other scientific
fields such as biology, neuroscience, sociology and even
biochemistry, as these things relate to behavior and humans.

What I learned. . .
(Chapter 12- Social Cognition and Emotion; 445) Stereotypes create self-fulfilling
prophecies. The group that is getting targeted with the stereotype behave in a way that
confirms the stereotype. An obvious example is racism, but another example would be a
teacher's expectation of a student's performance.

(Chapter 13- Social Influence and Relationships; 512) Group polarization is a

tendency for decisions made by groups to be more extreme than the decisions that would
have been made by the individual members. One reason is that each member of the
group wants to take a position at the group's leading edge.

(Chapter 17- Treatment of Mental Disorders; 643) Sigmund Freud developed the
beginning stages of Classical psychoanalysis. Freud believed that a patient's ills stem
from unconscious conflicts that date back to early childhood, and that for a person to
overcome their issues, they have to gain insight into their buried thoughts or wishes.
