ELEKTRO KIMIA

Persamaan Nernst

Problem :
Calculate the equilibrium constant at 25 oC for
the reaction between zinc metal and acid.
Zn(s) + 2 H+(aq) Zn2+(aq) + H2(g)

Solution
We start by calculating the overall standardstate cell potential for this reaction.
Zn Zn2+ + 2 eEoox = -(-0.7628 V)
2 H+ + 2 e- H2 Eored = 0.0000 V

Zn(s) + 2 H+(aq) Zn2+(aq) + H2(g) Eo = 0.7628 V

We then substitute into the Nernst equation
the implications of the fact that the reaction is
at equilibrium: Qc = Kc and E = 0.

Solution
At the equilibrium constant.
E = Eo ( RT/nF ) ln K
R = 8,314 J/mol.K
T= temp kamar(298 K)
F= 96.485 C
n= jml elektron
K= konst kesetimb.
Substituting what we know about the reaction
into this equation gives the following result.

Solution
Substituting what we know about the reaction
into this equation gives the following result.
nFEo = RT ln K

Probelm:
Use the following standard-state cell
potentials to calculate the complex formation
equilibrium constant for the Zn(NH3)42+
complex ion.
Zn(NH3)42+ + 2 e- Zn + 4 NH3 Eored= -1.04 V
Zn2+ + 2 e- Zn
E ored= -0.76 V

Problem :
Use the following standard-state cell
potentials to calculate the solubility product at
25oC for Mg(OH)2.
Mg(OH)2 + 2 e- Mg + 2 OH- Eored = -2.69 V
Mg2+ + 2 e- Mg
Eored = -2.38 V
