AIM OF THE STUDY


To document the various physical, chemical,
biological and psychological hazards among
hundred dental practitioners in the state of
Goa

OBJECTIVES OF THE
STUDY
To document the various physical hazards in dental

practice like fall, musculoskeletal pain, radiation


exposure, injuries while handling rotary cutting
instruments, electrical equipments and needle
prick / injuries.
To document various chemical hazards like; mercury
spillage, allergies due to any dental material.
To document various biological hazards like; direct
contact with patient's infected blood / saliva, herpetic
whitlow and irritation t the eye.
To document various psychological hazards like lack
of motivation, any legal involvement during practice
and work related stress.

MATERIALS AND
Study design: A cross-sectional, questionnaireMETHODS
based survey of dental practitioners in the state of
Goa.
Sampling : Stratified random sampling based on

the location of dental practice.


Duration of the project : Duration of the project

is from Nov 2016 - Dec2016

Inclusion criteria:
Dental practitioners practicing in the state

of Goa.
The names of dentists with phone number
listed on internet.
The dentists willing to participate in the
survey.

Exclusion criteria:
Practitioners not having an email id.
Practitioners not willing to participate as

confirmed by us via telephonic conversation

VALIDITY OF THE
QUESTIONNAIRE

Content validity: 6 dental practitioners /


Faculty will be asked to review the
questionnaire and will be requested to provide
their suggestions on the relevance of the
content of the questionnaire. Final
questionnaire will be based on suggested
modifications.

STATISTICAL ANALYSIS
The number and percentage of participants
with each category of occupational hazards
will be calculated. The responses to
questionnaire will also be tabulated.
