COSTUME

DOC MARTIN WEARING A SUIT SO HE STAND OUT from the rest

of the community in the area. The doc wearing follows the
upper class Londoner stereotype as they wear smart suits.
The plumbers are wearing overalls, which are navy blue, and
do not have a logo on them suggesting it is not a commercial
business they come from, signifying there location as most
people know them, therefore it is unnecessary for the logo.
The policeman is recognised by his uniform, but the task he is
carrying out- hoovering, shows that it is a low-key police
station as it does not have its own cleaners and not many
staff either.

LIGHTING

The lighting is bright and summery, possibly signifying that

the coast is happy and quiet, making it a relaxing place to be.
This contrasts to what the lighting would be like if, for
example, the Doc was still in London.
The low lighting in the house could follow the stereotype that
people living in Cornwall are quite backwards living (they
have very few electronic lighting inside houses. This could
reflect the rural atmosphere of the town where Doc Martin is
staying.

CHARACTERS

The characters have an west country accents, and a laid back

attitude, which suggests that the environment they come
from, there is low stress and need to get things done quickly
and follows the common Cornish stereotype.
Whereas the Doc has come from London, therefore talks
quickly, and everything has a time scale within which
everything has to be done, this follows the upper class London
stereotype where almost all menial tasks (plumbing etc.) is
already done for them, thus he does not have the knowledge
to do the job himself.

MOVEMENT

The movement of the locals is not rushed or frantic but laid

back, eg the policeman when the dog is left with him, he does
not rush to deal with it.
This suggests an element of calmness, which is emphasized all
round the local community.
Doc Martins movement is gets more faster and rushed as
more bad things happen to him, which can follow a fish out of
water stereotype for a Londoner in a rural environment.

SETTING

The cobble rocks, and beautiful view of the sea and cliffs gives
an element of serenity, this clearly demonstrates to the
audience the location of the surgery and where the Doc is
living is in Cornwall. This environment follows the Cornish
stereotype that they live in very rural areas.
