Flows of Goods
PROGRAM STUDI TRANSPORTASI LAUT DAN LOGISTIK TEKNIK PERKAPALAN

Foreign trade flows

relate to the exports and imports of a country, and
consequently, have their origin or destination in that
country.

Goods in transit
are those goods in international flow whose land
transport leg uses the territory of the country and one
of its ports.

Goods being transshipped,

where both origin and destination are located outside
the country but both of whose transport modes are
marine. Consequently, in this flow only the specific
ports of the country are used, not overland transport.

Loading and unloading cargo to vessels

PROGRAM STUDI TRANSPORTASI LAUT DAN LOGISTIK TEKNIK PERKAPALAN

Methods
lift onlift off (Lo-Lo)
employing either the vessels gear or quay-side cranes

Roll on Roll off (Ro-Ro)

loading and unloading method conducted by
horizontally moving equipment

Piping system

At cargo ports, the type and packaging of

cargo products determine the manner of
loading and unloading as well as of other
operations.

Port Demand Analysis

PROGRAM STUDI TRANSPORTASI LAUT DAN LOGISTIK TEKNIK PERKAPALAN

One important aspect of port planning is the

determination of the actual and potential port
hinterland or the area served by the port.
Port hinterland studies determine the geographic
area that is dependent on specific port facilities,
consisting of:

Evaluation of the development in a socioeconomic activity

affect or be affected by port
Economic activity may change with time and are usually
different for different commodities.

Port Demand Analysis

PROGRAM STUDI TRANSPORTASI LAUT DAN LOGISTIK TEKNIK PERKAPALAN

Traffic forecast should be base on historic and current data.

They should consider the result of the demand assessment
analysis.
The cargo flow should be corrected, where necessary for the
effect of future economic, industrial, demographic, political
and technological developments
Demand forecast must reflect the significance and effect of
the interaction among prime parameters affecting the
performance of ocean shipping.
The effect of private and public investment must be
assessed, together with potential effect of political
The impact of existing national laws must be considered
The effect of labor, social, management and administrative
should also be considered.

Scope of Cargo Volume Forecast

PROGRAM STUDI TRANSPORTASI LAUT DAN LOGISTIK TEKNIK PERKAPALAN

Types

and quantities of the various goods to

be moved through the port
Packing by type of cargo
Number of vessel calls corresponding to the
quantities above
There is potentially great uncertainty in
forecasts, and therefore the planning should
accommodate flexibility to enable
adaptation to meet future traffic.
