TIME TECHNIQUES FOR

ESTIMATION DUMP TRUCK
NEEDS

Introduction
PT. Kitadin Tandung Mayang is one of
business unit of PT. ITMG. It is located at
Desa Suka Damai, Kecamatan Teluk
Pandan, Kabupaten Kutai Timur,
Kalimantan Timur.
Mining operation methods at PT. Kitadin is
open-pit. Coal mined from Tandung
Mayang mine stockyard transported to
Bontang Coal Terminal (BoCT) throughtout
30km haul road using dump truck

Cycle time is a period where the process

involves at least one equipment to
execute the mining production, comprises
loading, travelling, terminal, and
travelling back.
Cycle time can be used to measure the
estimated time of product carriage,
manage the equipments productivity and
anticipate any kind of disfunction tools
appear around the work field.

Cycle time:
1. Fixed time : maneuver, load, dump.
2. Variable time : travel time counted from
one area to another area to carry the
materials.

Cycle time is needed to measure cycle of

the dump truck. The more accuracy of
the cycle, the more it become beneficial.
However, the condition on the field is
unstable. Possible obstacles such as
coveyances breakdown, high terrain,
condition of dumping area, roadwork,
tool maintenance, and delay equipments
which effect on delay productivitys
output.

Shovel Cycle Time

The shovel work cycle time is the time
required for the shovel to make one
complete cycle of dig from and clear the
bank, swing to dump position, dump
dipper, swing back to bank lowering
dipper, and position to dig (Bruce A.
Kennedy : 1990).

The truck cycle time itself comprises
load time, haul time, dumping time,
return time, queuing and spotting time

Cycle time has related to mining cost. If

there is accumulation of shovel or
delayed dump truck occuring in the field,
it will affect to the mining cost and
impacted loss due to the unstable
conveyances.
A small total of dump truck can increase
the shovel queuing time and make a
decreasing in production

a large amount of dump truck unit can

decrease the productivity of the dump
truck and it will spent a considerable
operating cost. It consists of fuels,
lubricants, and maintenance.
