Introduction to the EMS

The EMS is the primary interface for performing operations,
administration, and maintenance on Flexent components.
Through the EMS GUI, users monitor status and perform maintenance
procedures on the Flexent network and related applications.
The EMS GUI presents information in pages. Some pages present a
graphical representation of physical hardware.
The EMS GUI is accessed from the OMP Web page using the Netscape
Communicator version 4.77 browser. The Internet Explorer browser
will be supported in a future release of the product.

Introduction to the EMS - Scope

A Flexent network is made up of network elements (NEs), the applications that run on
network elements, and the managed resources (MRs) that are present. You can monitor and
control the listed examples of NEs, applications, and MRs through EMS pages:

Introduction to 1xEV-DO
The 1XEV-DO system can be deployed in two distinct modes: mixed or
standalone. The 1XEV-DO system deployment mode determines the
deployment mode for the OMP.
In a standalone mode, the OMP/EMS provides Configuration, Fault, and
Performance management capabilities for the 1XEV-DO Controller, as
well as the 1XEV-DO specific components of the the associated cell sites.
In a mixed mode deployment, the OMP/EMS provide management
capabilities for the GNP-AP and its RCS application, in addition to
providing support for the 1XEV-DO controller and cell sites.
In the standalone mode, the OMP is not connected to an ECP. In the
mixed mode scenario, the OMP will be connected to an ECP.
Please note that the deployment mode discussed here applies to the
1XEV-DO system as a whole and not individual cell sites, which can also
be deployed in 1XEV-DO only or mixed mode.

EMS WEB ACCESS

EMS Web Access Web Server Groups

The following EMS related security groups are defined:
apframeconfig Controls access to the AP Frame Configuration Page
(Used for 1XEV-DO)
emscm Controls access to all EMS Configuration Management Pages
(Used for 1XEV-DO)
ompconfig Controls access to the the OMP Configuration Pages
pcfconfig Controls access to the 3G1X PCF configuration pages
ems Default EMS security group. Controls access to the rest of the
EMS GUI Pages

EMS Web Access Web Server Groups

A default EMS user, called webuser, was originally created by the
EMS installation software.
webuser belongs to all of the EMS related security groups listed
on the previous page and therefore has complete access to all
EMS GUI pages.
The default password for webuser is webuser.
For security reasons, we encourage our users to change the
default password.
Some of our customers have removed the default user from the
access control list for security purposes.
If the webuser login has been removed, the EMS installation
software will not recreate that user.

EMS Web Access New User Administration

The OMP platform provides a set of commands to administer
users for access to both the OMP system and the EMS Graphical
User Interface:
addompuser Used to create a new user and add/delete a user
to/from a group
passwd Used to change the UNIX and Web Server password
associated with a user.
userdel Used to delete a user from the system

Configuration Management Container Pages

One container page for each object type. The page shows all
provisioned instances of a given object type.
Only the key fields associated with an object instance are
displayed on the container page.
The information on the container page can be sorted by columns
by clicking on the column header.
Clicking anywhere in a particular row navigates to the instance
page associated with that object instance.
A new object instance can be created from this page.
Selecting one of the objects on the left hand side of a container
page navigates to the container page associated with the selected
object
