and organization which is designed to facilitate
behavioral and environmental changes for the
conducive of health (Lawrence Green, 1984)
The process of enabling people to increase of
control and improve their health (WHO, 1984)
Process to enhance the ability of people to
control and improve their health. To achieve a
healthy state, a person or group must be able to
identify and realize aspirations, to meet the
needs and alter or control the environment
(Ottawa's Charter , 1986)

The combination of learning experiences designed to


help individuals and communities improve their
health, by increasing their knowledge or influencing
their attitudes (WHO, 1996)
Activities which rise an individuals awareness,
giving the individual the health knowledge required
to enable him or her to decide on a particular health
action (Mackintosh, 1996)
Activities that seek to inform the individual on the
nature and causes of health/illness and that
individuals personal level of risk associated with
their lifestyle behavior (Whitehead, 2004)

Primary prevention: To protect individuals in


order to avoid problems prior to signs or
symptoms of problems
Secondary prevention: Identifies persons in the
early stages of problem behaviors and attempts
to avert the ensuing negative consequences by
inducing them to cease their problem behavior
through counseling or treatment
Tertiary prevention: Strives to end problem
behavior and/or to ameliorate their negative
effects through treatment and rehabilitation

Public health protection deals with reducing


threats to the health of the population, such
as controlling biological, chemical or physical
agents that may cause an epidemic.
It includes a range of primordial and primary
prevention activities typically undertaken by
public health departments and government
agencies, such as ensuring safe food and
water supplies, protecting people from
environmental
threats,
and
controlling
infectious diseases in place

According to the mission of empowerment.
For example: the head of the family,
pregnant/lactating mothers, school age
Secondary objectives
According to the mission of social support. Ex:
community
