LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE

9
Date: December 9, 2016
Time: 1-2 PM
Grade and Section: Grade 9- Silver

I. OBJECTIVES:
1. Differentiate elements from compounds based on
their atomic compositions.
2.

Infer what happens during chemical

reactions.

II.
SUBJECT MATTER:
The Structure of
the Atom, Chemical Bonding
REFERENCE:
Module

Grade 9 Science

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS:
Calculator,
Learners

III. PROCEDURE

ACTIVITY
Have a group of students, composing
of 5 members, work on a "What
happens during chemical reactions"
worksheet. These should include the
following reaction types: Redox (team
A), Synthetic (team B), combustion
(team C), and simple reactions (Team
D). Another group of 5 students (Team
E) will evaluate whether or not the
substance presented in the worksheet
is an element or a compound.

ANALYSIS
1. How do elements stick together to
form a compound?
2. How do compounds stick together to
form different compounds?
3. How is it possible for a compound to
react with another compound?

ABSTRACTION
Introduce concept of bonds, redox,
synthetic, combustion, and simple
reactions.

APPLICATION
We are surrounded with both elements
and compounds and both are equally
useful. However, it is important to take
note on the chemical reactions these
compounds might exhibit, once they get
in contact with other substances.

IV. ASSESSMENT
Based on the students output for this
particular activity.

V. ASSIGNMENT
Remind the students of the next day's
lesson and a quiz covering todays
lesson.

SPECIAL NOTES
CHECKING FOR UNDERSTANDING
1. Short quiz.
2. If less than 80 percent of students pass, more
in class practice.
3. Reviewing what was learned in class.
COMPUTATION OF MEAN PERCENTAGE
SCORE (MPS)
Objective 1: (total score/ number of students/10)
x 100%
Objective 2: (total score/ number of students/ 5) x
