WHEN IM GONE:
EMINEM
When Im Gone is a song by Marshall
Mathers that is pretty sad. Most of the
song is about depression and telling
people to just carry on with life, even
when someone important to you dies.
This relates to the play because there
are a couple soliloquies by Hamlet
about his depression and whether or
not it is important to live. His to be or
not to be soliloquy probably reminds
me most of this song.
This song is about somebody talking about whether or not they are crazy.
They think they are and they ask other people if they are. This is similar to
when Hamlet acts crazy to a point where people arent even sure if hes
acting anymore. Also, Ophelia becomes completely crazy when her dad
dies and all the negativity from her past finally hits her.
Backstabbers is a song about friends who act like they like you
but all they want is to take your place. This is exactly what
happened with Claudius and the late King Hamlet. Also this
describes all the spying and lying in the play.
GOODBYE: RUSS
This song relates to Hamlets life in many ways. At one point, it talks
about people thinking he is a coward. We all say he is a coward and a
thinker, not a doer. The song also talks about his father telling him
something before he died. Hamlet is told by his dead ghost father to not
kill Gertrude but get revenge on Claudius.
ENEMIES: SHINEDOWN
This song talks about a couple
things that are relative to
Hamlet. It talks about being
stuck in a harsh world with
your enemy. Hamlet has talked
a couple times about how cold
the world is and we all can see
that he is stuck in the castle
with many enemies. It says
youve started something that
you just cant stop. Claudius
murdered someone and lied, so
the only way to cover it up is to
keep killing and lying.
This song repeatedly asks what you would do if you had an opportunity.
Would you capture it or would you let it just slip? Hamlet has been
given many opportunities to kill Claudius, but just lets him go every time.
