COSTUME NOTES

WHY ARE COSTUMES SO IMPORTANT?

Costumes are always an essential part of any film as the people

and the characters they play, dress to display and represent who
they are. The costume defines a character before the actor even
begins to speak. Furthermore costumes can be used to support
the characters intensions. For example if there was a male serial
killer wearing high heels and a crop top, the audience wouldnt
really be frightened as the costume is juxtaposing what the film
is trying to show. Whereas if the serial killer was dressed in
casual clothes, wearing dark colours (to be aligned with the scary
atmosphere) the audience will be more likely to be scared,
therefore fulfilling the role of the character.

SYDNEY JOHNSON

I have chosen the following items as I think they will represent my character in the
best possible way. It will be able to indicate a clear representation of who her
character truly is. Also you can always judge a person by how they dress so I think
its crucial that whatever Sydney Johnson wears should relate and symbolize the
character she is. The color black will connote the representation of darkness and
death, foreshadowing the events in. Furthermore the costume chosen would create
a sense of realism, therefore for that particular reason I have chosen the following:

I have chosen the clothes above for the character of Sydney Johnson because I feel
like it looks like a pretty but casual attire. This is what I am looking for to portray the
character of Sydney Johnson, the equilibrium is meant to be just a normal day at
home. But then again the fact that she's wearing shoes would intrigue the audience as
they will contemplate whys she's even wearing shoes in her house and question where
she is going or what she's doing.

STEPHAN CLAY

I have chosen the following clothing items for this character as I

think they will represent my character in the best possible way. I
think it will connote the clear representation of who his character
really is. Since the character has the personality of a calm
relaxed person (complete opposite to Sydney Johnson) he is
going to be dressed in casual clothes because due to her current
situation he wouldn't of had time to be picky with his outfit as he
was caught off-guard by Sydney.

BIBLE SALESMAN (RICK LICHSTEINER)

This character appears halfway through the sequence as a bible
salesman and comes and turns it into an equilibrium. He is going to
be dressed in a formal attire as that is what is usually expected of a
bible salesman. In that case my character will wear the following:
