ENGAGE DIVERSITY AND DIFFERENCE IN PRACTICE

BEHAVIOR 2.6
Apply and communicate understanding of the importance of diversity
and difference in shaping life experiences in practice at the micro,
mezzo, and macro levels.
Diversity is important while working at the agency. Each day clients get
assistances that have different backgrounds and ethnicities. This
requires workers practicing at the micro mezzo and micro levels.
Knowing clients life experiences practice at the micro, mezzo, and
macro experiences are put in place. Such as clients receiving trauma
therapy at the micro level.

BEHAVIOR 2.7
Present themselves as learners and engage clients and constituencies
as experts of their own experiences.
I was able to engage with clients in a supervised visitation. The clients
had been in foster care for about 18 months. However on this particular
day they were awaiting the court decision to be approved to go home.
The worker allowed them a visit before court started. During the visit
the clients and parents were very engaged with each other. It was the
most rewarding feeling when the parents and children were able to go
home as a family.

BEHAVIOR 2.8
Apply self-awareness and self-regulation to manage the influence of
personal biases and values in working with diverse clients and
constituencies.
A client was behaving in a manner that was very disrespectful. I
applied self-awareness by understanding that although I thought it was
disrespectful the client was behaving in this manner because of their
personal life experience.
