CAR SPEED CONTROL

BY BLUETOOTH

INTRODUCTION
World is plagued by road accidents.
1 person dies every 6 minutes, 10 are
injured in the same time frame.
Indias share of global car accidents is
10%.
6% of the worlds road accident
deaths happen in India.

High speeds and human errors leads

to accidents.

Effects like deaths, injuries, traffic

problems & loss of asserts.

So need an alert for the driver for the

approaching danger.
Checking the speed of the car is
important.
For this purpose bluetooth
technology is introduced.
With this we can save very many
lives.

WHAT IS A BLUETOOTH???
Bluetooth is a short-range wireless
technology designed to enable
wireless communication between
diverse devices.
Key features of bluetooth technology
includes robustness, low cost, low
power radio operating in the
unlicensed spectrum of 2.4 GHz and
use a nominal antenna power of
20 dBm.

A standard bluetooth can

communicate with 8 other devices
simultaneously.
Bluetooth devices are mainly divided
into 2 classes:
1) Class 1: range upto 100m
2) Class 2: range upto 30m
Here class 1 type is used and hence
we can check the speeds of eight cars
simultaneously.
100 m

EQUIPMENT
Using the wireless bluetooth
equipment a network called piconet
is created.
The group of 8 devices is known as
piconet.
Piconet is a collection of master and
slaves.
The frequency of 2.4 GHz is shared
among all the devices in the piconet.
7

Master is a device which controls all

the devices around it & slave is a
device which is being controlled by
the master.
Here A&B are masters and S1 to S6
are the slaves.
8

WORKING
When the distance between the two
vehicle is within 100m the bluetooth
devices get enabled.

<=100 m

Usually a minicomputer inside the

car is used to monitor the relative
position of the car with the other car.
If the distance come closer within
10m the computer sends a control
signal to the automatic braking
system which takes control.

<10 m

10

It then moves the hydraulic valves to

increase the pressure on the braking
circuit.
Effectively the braking force on the
wheels is increased.
After the speed of the car is reduced,
the hydraulic valves decreases the
pressure on the braking circuit, thus
effectively decreasing the braking
force on the wheels.

AUTOMATIC BRAKING
SYSTEM
Automatic braking system combines
sensors and brake controls to help
prevent high speed collisions.

14

The main components of the automatic

braking system are:
1) Speed sensors
2) Valves
3) Pump
4) Controller
Speed sensors
The automatic braking system needs
some way of knowing when a wheel
is about to lock up.
15

The speed sensors which are located

at each wheel provide this
information.
Valves
There is a hydraulic valve present in
the brake line of each brake
controlled by the automatic braking
systems.
The valve has 3 positions:
In position 1, the valve is open, the
pressure from the master cylinder is
16

passed right through to the brake.

In position 2, the valve blocks the
line, isolating that brake from the
master cylinder. This prevents the
pressure from rising further.
In position 3, the valve releases some
of the pressure from the brake.
Pump
Since the valve is able to release
pressure from the brakes, there has to
be some way to put that pressure
17

back. That is what the pump does.

When a valve reduces the pressure in
a line, the pump is there to get the
pressure back up.
Controller
The controller is a computer in the
car. It watches the speed sensors and
controls the valves.

18

ADVANTAGES
Bluetooth technology is useful in
avoiding collision among vehicles.
Low cost.
Low power.
Bluetooth technology is robust.

19

DISADVANTAGES
Only very short range
communication is possible.
Data transfer rate using radio waves
is slow when compared to infrared
rays.
Uses battery power.
Can only work with a maximum
number of 8 other bluetooth enabled
cars.
20

SUMMARY
The world was plagued by many
road accidents.
An alert for the upcoming danger
was necessary by controlling the
speed of the car.
Bluetooth technology was a simple
logical answer to these mainly due to
its cheap cost.
