Anaerobic Hybrid Reactor
           Fundamentals :-

 The concept of high-rate Anaerobic Reactor is based on three fundamental aspects:

 (1)Accumulation within be reactor of biomass by means of settling and attachment to

solids. Such systems allow the retention of slowly growing microorganisms by
ensuring that the mean solids retention time becomes much longer than the mean
hydraulic retention time.

 (2)Improved contact between biomass and waste water, over coming problems of
diffusion of subtracts and products from the bulk liquid to biofilms or granules.

 (3)Enhanced activity of the biomass, due to adoption and growth.

 Anaerobic Hybrid Reactor incorporates all the three design features described above
necessary for high rate anaerobic treatment.

Anaerobic Hybrid Reactor Advantage
 Process stability

 Low Sludge production

 Nutrient Requirement

 Tolerance to Shock Loadings

 Tolerance to Widely Varying Influent pH Conditions

 Energy Consumption

 Methane Production
Characteristics of Anaerobic Hybrid
Reactor
 High biomass concentrations and long SRTs achievable.

 Smaller reactor volume due to high organic loading rates.

 Stable operation under variable feed conditions or toxic

shocks.

 No mechanical mixing required.

 Biogas evolution and effluent recycle insure relatively uniform

temperature, pH, and substrate concentrations in reactor.

Energy Extraction

 Methan gas generation

 Utillzation of Bio-gas
SUMMARY
The anaerobic process most of the chemical energy in the organic
matter is retained in the form of methane gas, which leave the system.

Limited amount of energy is available for cell growth resulting in low

growth rates and low sludge prioduction

The most commonly used reactor configurations for anaerobic

treatment are down flow and up flow fixed film and up flow
anaerobic sludge blanket reactors.
