The birth of Ashok Motors
Founded by Raghunandan Saran, Ashok Motors was set
up in collaboration with Austin Motor Company, England
and incorporated on September 7th for the assembly of
Austin cars.

Ashok Motors and Leyland, UK
agree to collaborate
An agreement was reached between
the two companies and Ashok Motors
got sole rights to import, assemble and
progressively manufacture Leyland
trucks for seven years.

decker arrives
Titan - The first Indian-
made double decker with
50% indigenous
components was launched.

manufacturing company based in Chennai,
India. Founded in 1948, it is the 2nd
largest commercial vehicle manufacturer
in India, 4th largest manufacturer of buses
in the world and 16th largest
manufacturer of trucks globally.

segment. The company claims to carry
more than 60 million passengers a day,

network. In the trucks segment Ashok
