Functions :
indicating a state of questioning
In the interrogative mood, we dont have to
change the form of the verb. Instead, we invert
theauxiliary verband place it before the subject.
Themain verbcomes after thesubject.
There are 2 main types of questions :
Yes/No question
Wh-questions
Yes/No Questions
Usually, auxiliary verb comes first, followed by
the subject and the rest of the verb phrase.
Do family did, does : base form of verb
Examples :
1. Did you leave your bottle in my car?
2. Will Lucy be able to complete the work alone?
3. Are you looking for the Collins Cobuild book
too?
4. Does your mother still iron your clothes for
Wh-questions
When we want to specify a particular person, things, place,
reason, method, time or amount.
We do not expect yes or no answer.
Begin with a wh-word.
In most of the case, it applies the pattern of subject after the
auxiliary verb.
Examples :
1. What will Ken do when he finds out what you did?
2. Where have you hidden the presents for Bob?
3. Which window did the intruder enter the house through?
