Certain organisms are

everywhere on earth.
Where does this
organisms live?
Does all organisms are
harmful?
Bacteria are the most numerous
organisms on Earth. Pick up a
handful of soil. You will probably
pick up several millions of
bacteria. Why do you suppose you
cannot see bacteria?
Organisms like bacteria, that can be
seen only with a microscope are
called microorganisms. A
microorganism on your hand must be
about 400 times larger to be seen
with the naked eye.
What are the different kinds
of bacteria?
Rod-shaped bacteria
(Bacillus ; plural
bacilli)
Sphere-shaped bacteria
(coccus ; plural cocci)
spiral-shaped bacteria
(spirillum ; plural
spirila )
Like all living things, bacteria need the
right environment to live and grow.

much different from other cells. Compare the
bacterial cell and animal cell .

humans and other organisms.
Therefore, they can cause
variety of diseases. Can you
