WPS, PQR & WPQT

WPS
Welding procedure specification is a
written document that provides
direction to the welder or the welding
operators for making production
welds in accordance with Code
requirements.
WPS may specify the conditions
under which welding must be done.
These conditions include the base
metal, preheat and post weld heat
treatment requirements. Such things
are known as variables.
The WPS may have the detail of
essential variables, nonessential
variables, sub-essential variables.
It has the detail of properties of the
weldment and not the skill of the
welder or welding operator.
PQR
Procedure qualification Record is a
record of the welding data used to
weld a test coupon i.e. The PQR shall
have the detail of essential variables
and other specific information. It also
contains the test results of the tested
specimens.
P-No
Base metals have been assigned P-
Numbers, and for ferrous base
metals which have specified impact
test requirements, the P-No is 1 to
11. 21 25 Aluminum alloy. 31, 33-
35 Cu alloy, 32 brass, 41 47 Ni
alloy
Welding variables
A No
These refer to the chemical analysis of
the deposited weld and not the parent
material.
A1 Plain unalloyed carbon
manganese steels.
A2 to A4 Low alloy steels containing Moly
and Chrome Moly
A8 Austenitic stainless steels such as
type 316.
