Sound

Ashamae Swyer
Maroon 5 Sugar
(Piano Cover)
We used the intro of this piano cover for part of the
opening scene (0:00 0:52), helping to establish the
short film as a Romantic Drama. It also helps to
create and maintain the state of Equilibrium thats
present at the start. This is reflective of many
popular Romantic Dramas, such as The Notebook,
that used an equally peaceful piano song to set the
romantic tone of the film from the start.
Snow Patrol
Chasing Cars (Piano
Cover)
This piano cover is used at first as diegetic radio music
within the first scene (0:52 1:40), and then becomes a
sound bridge, going into the next scene and remaining
throughout the short film as non-diegetic background
music (1:40 - ). Its use as diegetic music within the
scene is to ensure that the actions within the scene are
clear. However, when it become non-diegetic, it has
more significance as it aids in heightening the emotions
within the scene, and helping the narrative to flow.
Sound effects
The use of ambient sound is prominent
during the first three scenes of the short
film, but quite abruptly disappear
afterwards and the only sound thereafter
is the non-diegetic background music.
We chose to do this to signify that while
Karina is living in her fantasy world,
where, Hayden is alive and well, the real
world is moving along and existing
around her.
