How to make a

nebulizer?
Things Needed:

Nebulizerkit
Air pump or oxygen machine
Step 1
Check
for the kit instructions. All of the
components are there:
There will be a mouthpiece the size of the mouthpiece
will depend on the kit size you purchased (for adults/for
kids). It may also be in the form of a mask.
There should be a connector (oxygen hose) for the
mouthpiece as well
There will also be a medication chamber this is the
unit that will hold the prescribed medication
Finally there is the tubing that will be connected to the
air source.
SOME KITS come with an air reservoir that is not a
necessity
Step 2

Test the air/oxygen supply.

Attach one end of the air/oxygen hose to
the machine and turn it on. You should
feel the air come through the hose. This
will confirm that the machine part of the
unit is working correctly and that the
hose is clear.
Step 3

Hookthe hose into the

medication chamber.
Insert the other end of the hose into the
chamber that is going to hold the
medication. Make sure the hose is
connected firmly so that none of the
medication can leak from the chamber.
Step 4

Add the prescribed medication.

The instructions that came with the
medication should clearly tell you how
much medication to add.
Step 5

Attach
the connector to the
mouthpiece.
The chamber will then couple up to the
connector, which is now attached to the
mask.
NOTE: IFthe type of kit you have been
required to use consists of a
mouthpiece, you may find that you have
to make use of an oxygen reservoir as
well. If this is the case, then there will be
a port on the side of the connector to
Step 6

Turn on the machine and set the

air level as prescribed by your
doctor.
If it is oxygen, it will have to be set at 6
liters to be released every minute.
Step 7

Observethe unit to be sure that

you can see a mist being
released through the mask or
mouthpiece.
This is confirmation that the unit has
been constructed correctly, and is
working properly.
Step 8

Place
the mouthpiece in your
mouth, or the mask over your
mouth and nose, and breathe
deeply and slowly.
Continue this until there is no more mist
being generated, or according to the
instructions of your physician.
