Biography
Omowunmi Sadik was born on June 19, 1964 in Lagos,
Nigeria. Omowunmi was introduced to science by her father
who was a pharmaceutical technician. In her family there
were three physicians, one civil engineer and two nurse
practitioners.
In high school, Sadik was interested in physics, chemistry
and biology. In 1985 she graduated from the University of
Lagos in Nigeria with a B.S. degree in chemistry and a M.S.
degree in chemistry in 1987. In 1994 she received her Ph.D.
in chemistry at Wollongong University in Australia.
Contribution To Science
In 1996, Sadik was an assistant professor of chemistry at the State
University of New York (SUNY) at Binghamton. From 2000 to 2003, Sadik
held visiting appointments at the Naval Research Laboratories, Cornell
University, and Harvard University. In 2002, she was promoted to
associate professor of chemistry at SUNY-Binghamton. In 2005, Sadik
became a full professor and became director of SUNY-Binghamtons
Center for Advanced Sensors & Environmental Systems (CASE)

She is a professor of Bioanalytical and Environmental Chemistry. Her


research interest is to understand the mechanisms of how chemical
information is transformed from one interface to another and to use
that knowledge to develop innovative sensing technologies, functional
materials and devices.
How I Picked This Person
Both my parents are from Guinea which is in West Africa. I couldnt
find a scientist from there so I searched up a scientist from West Africa
and ended up picking Omowunmi Sadik.
