Signalling Load

Optimization

LTE-TDD
Brief Introduction

Problem Statement

Few site/cells had very high traffic load and efforts were being made to get
maximum output of cells capacity
We have had run out our usual options (additional carrier/sectors/load balance
etc.)
Brainstorming on LTE algorithms led me to try an out of the box approach to add
additional traffic Capacity to traffic by harvesting it from Signalling
we offer Fixed LTE wireless service and dont have any interworking technologies,
so
Why we are using our network configuration as default given by vendors
Going through the parameter set, I found Vendors has not made any specific changes to optimize
configuration to influence network as a Fixed wireless.
Above facts led me to dig deeper to find whatever I could find to make service
better
LTE SIBs
When a LTE UE attaches to network it goes through the synch cycle and get
to know the cells configuration/BW/selection parameter set.
Detail understanding of SIBS helped me getting following abnormalities
Beside no mobility(HO) defined SIB4,5,6,7,8 has been configured
MBMS not being used SIB13,15 configured for it too, so these are once of overheads of no use
Action taken

A Test cell was made active in Lab and SIBs causing nonessential
overhead were turned off
Following are the gains got we got from this activity
PRB usage for signalling reduced from 2.17% to 1.94%. A total of 11% gain were
achieved
