Introduction
To teach the fundamental theory and practice of organic reactions as
a basic for second level courses with an organic chemical content.

Focuses on the key concepts of organic chemistry through:

study of the reactions of selected monofunctional aliphatic,

alicyclic and simple aromatic molecules.

stereochemical consequences.

application of spectroscopic techniques to the determination of

molecular structure.

the development of key skills is facilitated by a programme of

tutorials and practicals.
Course Outcomes
Able to understand the common types of reactions and how
they proceed, that is, the reaction mechanism.
Able to understand the significance of stereochemistry in
organic chemistry.
Able to understand how the above can be combined in
devising syntheses of other organic compounds.
