An action that happened before another action in
the past
The students had gone before the teacher came.

Positive sentence
I had finished my work last year.
The film had started before we reached cinema.
Negative sentence
It had not rained heavily last month.
He had not slept.
Interrogative sentence
Had a thief stolen my watch?
Had they visited a doctor?
Past Perfect Continuous Tense
Use 1: Duration Before Something in the

They had been talking for over an hour
before Tony arrived.
She had been working at that company for
