Municipal solid waste which also contain the plastic waste materials are of
important concern because the plastic materials are non-biodegradable in
nature, they can cause problems to the environment.
Purpose
The purpose is to study the properties of bitumen sample with varying
percentage of plastic waste (LDP) added with respect to the weight of bitumen
and to determine the optimum % of plastic waste (LDP) which can be added in
bitumen sample to enhance its physical and engineering properties of bitumen.
By the use of plastic waste (LDP) in the road works we can reduce plastic waste
pollution in the environment and it increases the life of flexible pavement.
Materials Used and Experiments Performed.
Materials Used:
Bitumen grade VG-30
LDP- Low density polythene.
Experiments Performed:
Softening point test on bitumen
Flash and fire point test on bitumen
Penetration test on bitumen
Ductility test on bitumen
Marshall stability test on bitumen
Softening Point Test on Bitumen

1% 52.5 c
3% 54.5c
6% 53.5c
9% 56.5c
Remarks: It is observed that as the % of plastic waste (LDP) is increased w.r.t the
weight of bitumen, the softening point of the bitumen-plastic waste (LDP) mix
sample is increased.

9% 303.33C 336.66C
Remarks: It is observed that flash and fire point of plastic waste (LDP)-
Bitumen sample is increased by the increases of percentage of plastic waste
(LDP) with respect to the weight of bitumen.
