 What one thing could you do(you

aren’t doing now) that if you did on a

regular basis, would make a
tremendous positive difference in your
personal life?
Summary

Habit 1 “Be Proactive, Personal Vision”

(You are the creator)

 is based on imagination, conscience, independent will,

and self awareness.

Habit 2 “Begin With The End in Mind, Personal Leadership”

(Write the Program)

First mental creation

 is based on imagination and conscience.
 Habit3 is the second or physical
creation.

 Habit 3 is the exercise of independent

will toward becoming principle
centered.
The Power of Independent Will

The degree to which we have developed our independent will is

measured by our personal integrity.

Integrity is the value we place on ourselves.

Effective management is putting first things first.

“the successful person has the habit of doing the things failures, don’t like to do”
-they have the sense of direction and value, a burning “YES” inside that makes
it possible to say “no” toother things.
The essence of time management is to organize and execute around priorities

 Notes and checklists –recognizing multiple demand on our time

 Calendars and appointment books –scheduling events and
activities
 Prioritization, clarifying values, comparing the relative of worth of
activities –integrating our daily planning with goal setting
 Managing ourselves rather than managing time-focusing in
preserving and enhancing relationships and accomplishing,
results thus mantaining the P/PC balance (production vs. building
production capacity
Characteristic of activities , classifying them as urgent or not
urgent, important or nor important.

URGENT- requires immediate action

IMPORTANT-high priority goal, has to do with the results

URGENT NOT URGENT

Quadrant II

Urgent matters are usually visible, they insist on action,

they are easy and fun to do. (e.g a ringing phone) bu
toften they are unimportant.

Important matters contribute to our mission.

Effective people stay out of Quadrants III and IV.
Quadrant II is the heart of effective personal management.
What It Takes to Say "No"

The only place to get time for Quadrant II in the beginning

is Quadrants III and IV. If you were to fault yourself in one
of three areas, which would it be?
The inability to prioritize
The inability or desire to organize around those priorities.
The lack of discipline to execute around them.
The Quadrant II Tool

A Quadrant II organizer will meet six criteria:

Coherence. Integrates roles, goals and priorities

Balance. Success in the various roles of our life. Keeps various roles
before you so they’re neglected

Quadrant II Focus. Organize your life on a weekly basis. Schedule

your priorities don't prioritize what's on your schedule.

A "People" Dimension. Focus on people not just the schedule. Think

of efficiency when dealing with things.

Flexibility. The organizer is your servant, not your master

Portability. You should be able to carry your tool with you.

Becoming a Quadrant II Manager

Identify roles

Select goals-two or three items to accomplish for each role

for next week, including some of your longer term goals and
personal mission

Schedule –includes freedom and flexibility to handle

anticipated events and the ability to be spontaneous

Adapt – respond to unanticipitaed events, relationships and

experience in a meaningful way
Advances of the Fourth Generation

1.Principle centered-enables you to see your time in the

context of what’s important and what’s effective

2.Conscience directed-enables you to organize your life

around your deepest values.

3.Defines your unique mission-includes values and LT goals

4.Helps balance your life by identifying roles

5.Greater context through weekly organizing

Delegation: Increasing P and PC
Stewardship delegation involves expectations in
five areas:
