The Compass

The Chinese were the first to use


compasses. At first they were mostly
used for maintaining harmony and
prosperity with ones environment,
what we now call fen shui.
Youll remember that most of the
travelling in the 13th Century was by
land or keeping close to the shore.
Thanks in part to the invention of
the compass, sailors were able
cross the worlds oceans by the
year 1500.
But what really made this possible
was the compass rose.
Compass roses can be
simple
To more complex.

This one includes the names of 32


points of the compass rose.
Even today navigating often depends
on the compass and compass rose

roses. Each group
collaboratively makes one
compass rose.
