Introduction
The Fourth Generation (4G) Technology is the fastest
Technology provide for data transfer. 4G is the short
term for fourth-generation wireless. It is still a research
lab standard, the stage of broadband mobile
communications that will replace the third generation
(3G).

. 4G is not one defined technology or standard, but

rather a collection of technologies at creating fully
packet-switched networks optimized for data
4G Networks are projected to provide speed of 100Mbps
while moving and 1Gbps while stationary
4G
Faster and more reliable

100 Mb/s

Lower cost than previous generations

Multi-standard wireless system

Bluetooth, Wired, Wireless

Ad Hoc Networking

IPv6 Core
Objectives
4G is being developed to accommodate the
Quality of Service (QOS) and rate
requirements set by forth coming
applications like:

MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service)

Wireless Broadband Service
Video Chat
Mobile TV
Digital Video Broadcasting
High Network Capacity
Smooth handoff across heterogeneous network
Seamless Connectivity and Global Roaming
across multiple networks
Evolution
1G
When one door closes, another opens

1G (First Generation) is the name given to the

first generation of mobile telephone networks.

Circuit-switched technology
FDMA (Frequency Division Multiple Access).
Analog system.
Basic mobility.
Poor voice quality.
Poor security.
2G
You can have it all. Just not all at once
Digital data can be compressed and
multiplexed much more effectively than
analog voice encodings.

Multiplexing -multiple analog

message signals or digital data streams
are combined into one signal.

Digital voice data can be compressed

and multiplexed much more effectively
than analog.

Allows for lower powered radio signals

that require less battery power.
3G
Dreams are necessary to life.
Large capacity and broadband capabilities. Allows
the transmission of 384kbps for mobile systems and
up to 2Mbps.

Increased spectrum efficiency 5Mhz

-A greater number of users that can be
simultaneously supported by a radio
frequency bandwidth.

High data rates at lower incremental cost than 2G.

Global roaming
Does not divide up the channel by time or
frequency.
Data Rates Comparison (Kbps)
4G Technology Feature
(A)Incomparable Speed

(B) Advanced Security

(C) Reliability and Effectiveness Irrespective of

the Weather Condition

(D) Transfer Rate

(E) Wireless Technology

Advantages
Internet Protocol (IP) based mobile system

Low cost

Wider bandwidths and higher bit rates

Global mobility and service portability

A wide range application using only one 4

G integrated terminal.
Application
Virtual Presence

Virtual Navigation

Tele- Medicine and education

Crises Management

Multimedia Video Service

Conclusion
A 4G technology which is an upgraded
version of 3G technology, will be
introduced in the market by 2011 which
will meet the needs which were not found
in the 3G technology while maintaining its
backward compatibility. As we have seen
in the working group of 4G technology
namely 3GGP, 3GGP2 and WiMAX
technologies will continue to evolve and
enhance its capability, with a clear
roadmap of reaching 1 Gbps in motion at
low speed and 100 Mbps at high speed at
lower cost.
Future Scope
There are many good reasons for 4G development and
a variety of current and evolving technologies to make
4G a reality.

Both service providers and users want to reduce the

cost of wireless systems and the cost of wireless
services.

4G's flexibility will allow the integration of several

different LAN and WAN technologies.
