Jack Merridew
Who really is Jack Merridew?
Jack is directly introduced and described as Inside the floating
cloak he was tall, thin, and bony; and his hair was red beneath
the black cap. His face was crumpled and freckled, and ugly
without silliness. Out of this face stared two light blue eyes,
frustrated now, and turning, or ready to turn, to anger. (Golding
20).

let the pig get away and shows how he is committed to killing it next time he sees it.

Pig or Rescue?
A symbol which connects to Jack is a pig. He is always on the lookout to hunt more of them and
loses track of the actual goal of being rescued.

Jacks first encounter with a pig on the island.

Jack and Ralph bond in the beginning, but in the end Jack ends up turning completely
against Ralph and tries to kill him.
-In chapter 1, Ralph was elected chief which made Jack jealous, however they were
still civil towards one another.
-In chapter 8, Jack goes off by himself and creates his own tribe, turning everyone
against Ralph and in chapter 12, ultimately turning everyone savage and convincing
