NTSE

National Talent Search Examination


Introduction
National Science Talent Search Scheme (NSTSS) now know as
NTSE (National Talent Search Examination) is a national level
scholarship programstarted by NCERT in the year 1963.

NTSE is organized to identify Talent (pratibh) in India and


nurturing them for the betterment of the nation. The qualified
and talented students are provided with financial assistance in
the form of a monthly scholarship for a entire academic career.
Eligibility

Students of Class X studying in recognized schools are


eligible to appear for Stage I examination conducted by the
States / UTs in which the schools are located.

Stage I Exam Patten
The first stage of NTSE comprises of three part :-
(a)Mental Ability Test (MAT)
Mental Ability Test (MAT) consisting of 50 questions.(50 Marks)
(b) Language Comprehensive Test (LCT)
Language Comprehensive Test comprises of language test consisting of 40
questions.(40 Marks) (English & Hindi both)
(c) Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)
Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) consisting 90 questions (From Social Science. Basic
Science & Mathematics).(90 Marks)
Stage I Exam Patten

Candidates acquiring more than the required


percentage (Cut Off Percentage) in the state level
examination (Stage-I) and standing within a
specified number of top ranks are eligible to
appear for National Level Examination (Stage-II)
(about top 4000 students from the entire
country).

Quota for student per State / UT will be computed


proportionally on the basis of students enrolment
in Class IX and X.
Eligibility For STAGE -II

Candidates acquiring more than the required percentage


(Cut Off Percentage) in the state level examination (Stage-
I) and standing within a specified number of top ranks are
eligible to appear for National Level Examination (Stage-II)
(about top 4000 students from the entire country).

Quota for student per State / UT will be computed


proportionally on the basis of students enrolment in Class
IX and X.

Stage II Exam Patten
Second stage of NTSE also comprises of three part :-
(a) Mental Ability Test (MAT)
Mental Ability Test (MAT) consisting of 50 questions.(50 Marks)
()(b) Language Comprehensive Test (LCT)
()Language Comprehensive Test comprises of language test consisting of 50
questions.(50 Marks) (English & Hindi both)
()(c) Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)
()Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) consisting 100 questions (From Social Science.
Basic Science & Mathematics).(100 Marks)

()Negative Marking:- Deduction of 1/3 marks for every wrong answer & no
marks will be deducted for unattempted Questions.

Scholarship

Each year, about 4000 students


appear for the National Level
Examination. On the basis of the
examination conducted, 1000
scholarships will be awarded for each
group of students appearing for

as per NTS rules except for Ph.D., wherein it is paid
according to UGC norms.
For the courses in Basic Sciences, Social Sciences and
Commerce, this assistance is provided up to Ph.D.
level.

How to apply

The Student may contact the State/UT


Liaison officer for procuring application
form.

However, application form can be downloaded


from <www.ncert.nic.in> website also.

The completed application form duly signed by


Principal of the school should be submitted to the
LO/ concerned district official of the State.

Fees : States and Union Territories may notify


the fee required which will be paid for the Stage-I
examination. However, NCERT does not charge
any fee for the Stage-II examination.
