through crayon drawings and the art of
Synthia Saint James.

how a certain color can change a picture.

diversity is a good thing in a classroom and
in life and how having a diverse
environment is beneficial for everyone.

activity relates to their own classroom and
the world around them.

How can diversity be represented with a
box of crayons?
Is diversity just in the classroom? Or the
whole world?
How can we use what we know about
diversity to improve it?
Lesson Objectives: What the students
should DO

Visual Art: The students will be able to use


more colors to better depict their family
more accurately.
Social Studies: The students will be able to
make connections between their pictures
and their classroom while thinking about
diversity.
Literacy: Students should be able to
compare the activity and the diversity of
their classroom in a paragraph.

Anticipatory Set
The opening lesson will be the teacher
going around giving every student just
ONE crayon. The teacher will then
explain that using just their ONE crayon
that the students need to draw a
detailed picture of their family, house,
pets, etc., trying not to leave anything
important out.
Summative Assessment
The summative assessment for this
assignment would be the writing the
students do at the end of the lesson.
This is the time for them to show what
they have learned about art and
diversity.
