Scene: By 1864-1865, the potential outcome
of the War for the South was looking
up
The North had achieved victory at
the Battles of Vicksburg and
Gettysburg, and Southern troops
were becoming weak
Citizens and soldiers alike were
getting tired of the War
Lincoln has now served his first four-
year term

Election
Republicans: Lincoln
Argues that the War must be
won, the slaves freed, and the
Union preserved at all costs.
Democrats: McClellan
Argues that the War had gone on
long enough and that the South
should be allowed to secede in
order to save American lives-
means slavery would continue in
the Southern states.
