Abortion Debate

By Connor Brown
Overview
The debate on whether or not abortion, the act of ending a womans
pregnancy before giving birth, should be legal has been prominent since the 60s,
when the court case Roe v. Wade was decided. The case stated that the
Constitution gives "a guarantee of certain areas or zones of privacy," and that
"This right of privacy... is broad enough to encompass a woman's decision whether
or not to terminate her pregnancy," (U. S. Supreme Court, 1). The supporters of
abortion are known as pro-choice, and the people against abortion are known as
pro-life.
Pro-Choice Argument
Empowers women and keeps them from having a disadvantage after giving

birth.

The fetus does not have personhood and cannot feel pain.

Babies should not have to come into the world unwanted or with fatal/severe

disabilities.
Pro-Life Argument
The killing of the fetus is morally wrong.

Women should accept the responsibility of having the child or put it up for

adoption.

Abortion could lead to psychological or physical problems for the mother.
