The Food and Assistance Department was working as a joint department in the state till the year 1964. Separately, since 1964, the Department of Food and Civil Supplies came into existence separately from the Assistant Department. Since 1987, the Department related work related to Consumer Protection is also being edited. On 21st June 2001 the department was named 'food, civil supplies and consumer affairs' department.
