Dermatitis of the sebaceous
areas
Is a chronic dermatitis with
distinctive morphology (as red,
sharply marginated lesions with
greasy-looking scales) & distribution
(areas rich in sebaceous glands:
scalp, face, upper trunk; sometimes
flexors (not an essential diagnostic
criterion)
Precursor: Dandruff (visible
desquamation from the scalp
surface)---- gradually
progress through redness, irritation
and increasing scaling of the scalp to
true seborrhoeic dermatitis
